The Village

Director - M. Night Shyamalan

Genre - Mystery/Thriller

M. Night Shyamalan had the makings of a uber director in waiting once. With 'The Sixth Sense', 'Unbreakable' and 'Signs' he was touted rightfully as the next Hitchcock. And then, he went and did 'The Village'. A whole Amish-like community are awakened from their god-fearing, evil-abstaining stupor by a truth that may or may not set them free. In the aftermath of this film's 'unveiling', we couldn't help wishing that we shouldn't have even bothered to peep a little in the first place. And that we should have just said our farewells to the promising trailer and left it at that.

1 STAR!

To take the above comment one step further, the movie managed to put a nail on our heads as well. Well written.

This was a great three-quarters of a movie. Just turn it off before the big reveal, and it's got great suspense, creepy monster design, and a strange, unsettling atmosphere. Of course, it all goes to shit for the last 20-30 minutes or so.

I hated this movie. It deserves a half a star, if that.

I loved this movie, I actually like it better than Sixth Sense.

Brody's great, Hurt is great, Phoenix is great, Howard is great, the imagery is great, what's so bad about it?

M. Night has some duds but this isn't one of them in my opinion.
Thanks for the comments guys.

Tony - One man's meat is another's poison. We're glad you enjoyed it. :)
